Music theory lessons speed up music lessons

Music theory training starts with learning the vocabulary and language of music. Each element can be understood as written in music notation, on the instrument, and when heard in sound. These three ways of knowing and understanding are not easily connected because the paths of learning differ for each. The instrument is learned by demonstration and physical motion.
Learning music notation requires knowledge of staff and written symbols. Ear training requires that the concepts of pitch, interval, scale, and chord be connected with sound. The results of not connecting ear training, instrument study, and music reading leave musicians with limited skills. It is easy to go down one path and lose sight of another. Thus we have musicians that play by ear but cannot read music or those that read but cannot play by ear or improvise. Music students who combine music lessons with instrument study and ear training tend to make the most progress and become the most versatile musicians because these skills reinforce one another.

Get started with piano lessons

Playing the piano is a skill that can provide joy and enrichment for a lifetime. One of the most enjoyable parts of learning to play the piano is the opportunity to interact with other musicians.

Piano lessons can be started at almost any age, and how quickly the student progresses will depend on age and previous musical experience. Very young students might stay at a "beginner" level for several years, as the physical coordination and cognitive skills required to play the piano are still developing. For an older child or adult, most of the basic skills needed have developed already and simply need to be trained, so progress will happen more quickly. It might take a year or so for a student with no previous musical experience to become comfortable with note or chord-chart-reading, playing with the hands together, and playing chords in addition to melodies. Don't be discouraged if progress seems slow at first. It may take two to three years to advance to the intermediate level, but once there, a student will be comfortable enough with the keyboard and with chords and melodies, to enjoy playing almost any popular song and many classical pieces. Moving from intermediate to advanced level, a student of classical or jazz piano will begin learning more theory and music history in addition to more advanced repertoire.

A student learning popular music might start to make the left hand chord progressions they have learned more complicated by adding in arpeggios and rhythmic variations. They might also begin arranging songs or writing some of their own.

Drum Lessons For Beginners

It is no surprise, therefore, that a lot of the youth who listen to rock and pop music aspire to be drummers themselves and look to take drum lessons . Drum lessons are sometimes necessary for even those who have been playing the drums for some time but have still not got the hang of the basics.

What a lot of people taking drum lessons do not know is that holding the drum stick is one of the things that need to be mastered first. Most people who start to play the drums just take the liberty of holding the drum stick. What they do not realize is that this just makes the task of playing the drums can get extremely difficult if the beginners do not know the correct technique of holding the drum stick, despite all the drum lessons that they may be taking.

The most convenient techniques for holding the drum stick are the traditional grip, the French grip or something called the matched grip. Whichever style or technique you may choose to follow, the drum lessons should make you aware of the correct way of holding the drumstick for each of these styles. What you will find if you faithfully master any of these grips is that your drum lessons will become very easy to follow.

After you have learned how to hold the drum stick correctly as part of the drum lessons, you will have to progress to the technique of keeping time. Keeping time can be quite a difficult process for beginners, with them having to count time signatures, keep a count of the various types of beats and notes. If you have learned to do these things, your drum lessons are already bearing fruit.

The History of the Piano

When talking about the history of the piano mention must be made of the early instruments that paved its way.

The first historical mention of instruments is in Genesis 4:21. The King James Version reads as follows: "And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ". The first instrument in history to have a keyboard was the Hydraulis, the precursor of the modern organ. It was built in Greece about 220 B.C. By the Second Century A.D. the organ was commonly used at important festivities in Greece and the Roman Empire.

The earliest keyboards were played with the hands, wrists, fists, knees, or feet. Up to the 13th Century the scales were diatonic ssrather than the twelve tone chromatic scale we use today grand piano.

The piano is founded on earlier technological innovations. The 14th and 15th Centuries saw the development of different kinds of keyboard stringed instruments. Some came with hammers, including the chekker, dulce melos, and clavichord. Some were plucked instruments, including the virginal, spinet and harpsichord.

The modern piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655–1731) of Padua. He was an expert harpsichord maker, employed by Ferdinando de' Medici, Grand Prince of Tuscany, as the Keeper of the Instruments. The first piano he built was about the year 1700 or 1698.

Why Music Makes You Happy

Music is found everywhere, in the whistle of the winds or the rustle of the leaves; in the clouds, in the rain, everywhere in nature. Be it from any source, music does make you feel good. It refreshes your mind and makes you happy. Owing to its benefits on overall health, it is even used in treating ailments. Exposure to music in any way, either playing it or even listening to someone play can make you feel happy and excited.

Many a time, a certain piece of music or a particular song makes you happy because of the memories associated with it. It's the melody or the lyrics you can very well connect to and that's what makes you happy. Similarly, your interest in a particular genre of music or your skill in playing music can be the reasons behind your happiness derived from it. What type of music makes you happy depends on your interest or expertise in one of its forms. However, what brings happiness to everyone alike, is any form of good music. The blend of melody, rhythm and lyrics in music forms the basis of why music makes you happy.

Research says, that listening to music stimulates the production of dopamine in the brain. The brain reacts similarly to the sight of delicious food or anything that looks/sounds interesting. Dopamine is released even when a person just thinks of a musical piece he loves to listen to. Dopamine makes us feel motivated. This chemical binds to the dopamine receptors, and contributes to generating a feeling of happiness. This chemical is released in different areas of the brain. When a person listens to good music, more blood flows to these parts and to the nerve endings which release this chemical. It is observed that good music relaxes and opens up the endothelium of blood vessels, while listening to bad music closes the endothelium, leading to stress and mental fatigue. This is how deeply music affects the mind and brain.

Art and music

Art and music’s facilitation of self esteem and stress-reduction potentially allows everyone to work through any source of spiritual trauma. Something as simple as learning the words to a meaningful song or hanging your drawing on the refrigerator generates self esteem. Starting and completing any task, and experiencing the finished product, produces an irreplaceable sense of productivity and worth. Likewise, after studying or creating a piece, one can enjoy the product and possibly share it with his or her loved ones.  “Happiness is only real when shared.”

The life-affirming pleasure of experiencing art and music construct a sense of control, especially in a time of disillusionment or disease. Although art and music connect people, they can also administer a sense of independent thought and actions. Away from appointments, away from family stress, away from society’s expectations, connecting with art and music puts the individual in control. No one can enforce what can be listened to, what colors are permitted, what should cultivate inspiration—the quest to spiritual wellness is an
individual journey in this sense. Art and music provide control in a chaotic world.

Music has natural healing power

Music is an art imbued with power to penetrate into the very depths of the soul. Music and healing were communal activities that were natural to everyone.Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order,
and leads to all that is good, just, and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate and eternal form.
music online

Music is a way to tap into the innate knowledge that resides deep in our cells. We live "in" music. Great music nourishes us in ways we don't even realize. It inspires us, relaxes us, energizes us--in short, it heals us and keeps us well. And music can be found everywhere in our world.  music can be delicate and quiet, but never sedentary. Even a tone that extends for hours at a time, unvarying, carries a pulsing wave that affects our mind and body at many levels.
